Dog Breeding Question

Everything I know about professional dog breeding is from a couple of books called The Ark and Rowan's Farm (and it's too early to remember the author's name, but they were written shortly after WWII). In it, the puppies in a litter were all given kennel names starting with the same letter. So my question is ... with Robin, Rowdy, Rose, Rebel, Ranger, Rascal ... Where did Fred come from?

Reminds me of a scene in my currently favorite show - name ten things starting with P.
