I am beyond dumb

I am a head case. I am a psychiatrist's dream, a grab bag of complexes, neuroses, disorders, depressions, hormonal deficiencies and surpluses, phobias, and paranoias. I am the daughter of a Prozac Nation and ward of the Psychology Obsession, and I refuse to submit to the common will.

Which all boils down to the fact that I refuse to be medicated. I don't like the idea of taking a personality altering drug, so until such time as my disorders become unmanageable, I won't say another word.

Except that on top of all that, I'm stupid. Slap-me-in-the-face dumb. Okay, done now.

Going to a shrink doesn't necessarily mean getting medicated, though. Therapists aren't authorized to give you drugs, I think. Some kinds, anyway.

Correct. Psychologists do not (can not) prescribe meds. Psychiatrists can.

(I'm a secretary in the field, that's prob why I know. Most people get them confused together, it seems.)

Not all of the meds I think you may be talking about are "personality altering drug." Some just kinda correct chemical imbalances n stuff.

(I speak as a mom of a child who suffers from stuff.)
